85 World Racers to Show Off at the Mandalika MotoGP

INDONESIA is again hosting the MotoGP motorcycle race after previously holding a similar event in 1997. The racers are ready to race their vehicles on the asphalt track of the International Circuit Jl Raya Pertamina Mandalika, Central Lombok, NTB, Friday (18/3).

A total of 85 racers from 42 teams will experience the ability, agility, and strategic intelligence to compete on this new 4.31 kilometer circuit with 17 corners in the event titled Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia 2022 or MotoGP Mandalika.

They consist of 24 riders and 12 teams in the MotoGP class, 30 motorcycle riders along with 15 teams for Moto2 and 31 iron horse jockeys defending 15 Moto3 teams. In addition, there will also be future racers at the Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup (IATC) which is the red carpet for the Moto3 class in MotoGP racing.

Not only that, there are around 2,500 crew members from the entire team consisting of technicians and officials from five continents. Dorna Sports officials as promoters of MotoGP and IATC such as Chief Executive Officer Carmelo Ezpeleta and Managing Director Carlos Ezpeleta are also not left behind. This activity will also be monitored directly by the world’s motor racing regulator, the International Motorcycle Federation (FIM).

In the schedule broadcast by MotoGP, Friday’s activities were preceded by two official practice sessions, morning and afternoon, followed by all riders. The official morning practice session starts from the Moto3 class at 09.00-09.40 WITA, followed by a warm-up in the Moto2 class at 9.55-10.35 WITA and MotoGP (10.50-11.35 WITA) and IATC (11.50-12.20 WITA).

The official afternoon practice session begins at 13.15-13.55 WITA (Moto3), continues at 14.10-14.50 WITA (Moto2) and MotoGP at 15.05-15.50 WITA. Friday’s official practice was closed by the young IATC riders at 16.45-17.10 WITA.

There is something unique about this MotoGP event, namely that Indonesia is represented in all races. They are ready to surprise the public themselves. In Moto3 there is Mario Suryo Aji, a young man from Madiun, East Java, who is defending the Honda Asia Team. The new Mario 2022 season is paving in the Moto3 event.

Then there was the Indonesian team, Pertamina Mandalika SAG Team, which competed in the Moto2 class, represented by their riders, Bo Bendsneyder from the Netherlands and Gabriel Rodrigo from Argentina. The team has been fighting in Moto2 since 2021 with Bendsneyder sitting fifth in the overall standings at the end of the season. Bendsneyder is a Dutch racer of Indonesian descent and is given a unique nickname by his fans in his homeland, namely Mas Bo.

In the MotoGP class, there are a number of Indonesian-made products attached as official sponsors to a satellite team, Gresini Racing. The team, based in Italy, consists of a formidable duo from Italy, Enea Bastianini and Fabio Di Giannantonio. They are dark horses in MotoGP. The proof, Bastianini has won the championship podium in the MotoGP 2022 series opener at the Losail International Circuit, Qatar, 4-6 March 2022.

At the IATC event, Merah Putih was represented by four young racers such as Veda Ega Pratama, Aan Riswanto, Rekyat Yusuf Fadillah, and Diandra Trihardika. Even Veda made a surprise by getting on the podium at Losail, March 6, 2022. He emerged as the second winner of the IATC opening series which was specifically held on the Asian continent.

Marc Marquez and his friends at a press conference on Thursday (17/3), stated that they were ready to surprise millions of their fans in Indonesia with their best achievements and captivating actions on the track.

Meanwhile, President Director of PT Pembangunan Wisata Indonesia or Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) Abdulbar M. Mansoer said all 60 thousand tickets to the MotoGP race had been sold out. This was said in a press conference at the Media Center Indonesia MotoGP Mandalika 2022, Thursday (17/3).

President Joko Widodo is scheduled to attend the competition on Sunday (20/3). Previously, on Wednesday (16/3), the President took part in the parade of 20 racers on the capital’s protocol road which was also attended by two representatives of Indonesia, Mario Aji and Vega Pratama. (RO/OL-5)
