Finally, Nadal Into the Semifinals of the Indian Wells Masters 11th Time


21-time grand slam CHAMPION Rafael Nadal overcame tough odds to claim a place in the semifinals of the 2022 Indian Wells Masters. Facing Australian Nick Kyrgios in the last eight, Nadal battled hard in three sets to seal his victory. Friday (18/3) WIB.

In a battle lasting 2 hours 46 minutes, Nadal successfully stopped Kyrgios’ resistance and won 7-6(7/0), 5-7 and 6-4. Brought him back to the Indian Wells semifinals for the 11th time.

« I think for the moment I played well, » Nadal said after the match was quoted from the ATP, Friday (18/3).

« It’s difficult to play against him (Kyrgios), it’s always difficult because he changes the dynamics of the points very quickly and his serve is very big, especially the first serve.

Having fallen behind in the second set, Nadal admitted he made a lot of mistakes that time, which allowed Kyrgios to score a win. Luckily Nadal managed to get the momentum to bounce back in the third set and forced Kyrgios to lift the suitcase from the 2022 Indian Wells Masters.

« Sometimes tennis is all about momentum, » Nadal said. « After the way I finished the second set with a few mistakes, I knew the start of the third would be very important and maybe critical for me, » he said

« With those conditions, I felt the need to save the first few games, and then the game went smoothly again, » he explained.

In the action in the third set, Nadal explained that he changed his game pattern by trying to make more moves and that led to the victory.

« I decided to move a little bit more, try to change the movement of the opponent and try to create something different in the game, » Nadal explained.

“I think it worked. I also have quick movement with my hands, had some good returns on the first serve. »

« It’s all about finding a solution in every moment. In this sport it’s not just about how you feel comfortable. It’s about how you can make your opponents feel uncomfortable too. »

Meanwhile, in the semifinals, Nadal will meet his junior from Spain, Carlos Alcaraz Garfia, who successfully knocked out England’s Cameron Norrie with a 6-4 and 6-3 victory. (ATP/OL-13)
