Halep and Swiatek Compete for Tickets to the 2022 Indian Wells Masters Final

The battle between the French Open 2020 grand slam champion, Iga Swiatek, versus former world number one Simona Halep will be presented in the semifinals of the women’s singles Indian Wells Masters 2022, which is scheduled to take place on Saturday (19/3) WIB.

On her way to the semifinals, Halep first snatched victory over Croatia’s Petra Martic, in straight sets with the final score 6-1 and 6-1.

No less stunning, Swiatek also appeared extraordinary where he only gave one game victory for his opponent Madison Keys (United States) in the quarter-finals, before closing the match with wins 6-1 and 6-0.

With the impressive performances displayed by the two players in the quarter-finals, it is not impossible that a fierce competition will occur in the Indian Wells Semifinals on 19 March.

Speaking of her performances in the quarter-finals, Halep, who had a poor season last year, said it was one of her best matches of the year,

He also said this victory gave him the confidence to continue to perform well.

“I think maybe (it was) my best match of the year,” Halep said, in her post-match press conference, quoted from WTA Thursday (17/3) WIB.

“I feel in very good shape. I feel confident. I appear aggressive. Everything I have to do I do, and that’s pretty good.”

“(This win) gave me confidence, gave me encouragement that I can still play at this level. It’s been a difficult year, as you know,” said Halep.

“Now coming to this tournament and playing well means a lot. I will take all the positives and I will only build my confidence even more,” he explained.

If you look at WTA records, Halep and Swiatek have met three times before, with all of those meetings taking place at Grand Slam events.

Halep beat Swiatek at the 2019 edition of Roland Garros, but Swiatek avenged that loss in the 2020 edition at Roland Garros, But Halep managed to claim a three-set victory in their last meeting at the Australian Open last year.

When asked about her meeting with Swiatek, Romanian Halep predicted it would be a tough fight, considering that Swiatek is currently at her best and is unbeaten in her last 9 matches.

“A difficult and very difficult match (against Swiatek) because he played the best tennis of his life, he is in the best moment. But I am here in the semifinals, so I will take the win from him. I will do it and try my best to reach the next round. ,” said Halep.

Meanwhile, Swiatek also thinks his meeting with Halep will not be easy, following the Romanian’s consistent appearance in the last three matches with all of them winning in straight sets.

“He’s playing good tennis now,” said Swiatek.

“He is very consistent. I don’t know how many mistakes he made today, but maybe less than 10. He is in very good form. It will be a difficult game and it will always be like that against Simona,” he explained.

However, Swiatek doesn’t want to think too much about it, because he feels that he is currently at his best level of playing.

“Of course for me, it will be a test. But I can see how much I have improved, and I feel my tennis is changing for the better,” he said. (Rif/WTA/OL-09)
