The Indonesian badminton team is confirmed to occupy Group A, both in the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup events based on the draw that was held in Bangkok, Thailand, Friday (1/4).
According to the Head of Binpres PP PBSI Rionny Mainaky, the two teams are predicted to have a difficult match because the Thomas Cup team shares a group with Korea, hosts Thailand and Singapore. The Uber Cup team is in the same draw as the 2020 edition along with Japan, France and Germany.
« The results of this draw are not easy, for both the Thomas team and the Uber team. The strength is almost the same as last year because the time span is not too long, » said Rionny through an official statement from PP PBSI.

The Uber team draw is unique because these countries are also in Group A in the 2020 Uber Cup which was held about six months ago.
« For the Uber team, it’s a bit funny because it’s exactly the same as last year. On the positive side, we more or less know each other’s strengths and can evaluate better against Japan, Germany and France. If the group runners-up I’m sure they can , but to win the group, you have to work harder, » said Rionny.

The Thomas and Uber Cup finals will take place on May 8-15 at Impact Arena, Bangkok, Thailand.
Responding to the results of the Thomas team draw, Rionny said that each country has its own potential strength. As was the case last year, the national team is also in a tough group but the players can keep their focus from the first half to become champions.
« That is a lesson and our experience, hopefully later we can maximize and defend the title, » continued Rionny.
As an anticipation, Rionny reminded the players to be aware of the presence of new players on the opposing team.
Although the competition and the strength of the opponent in general will not be much different, the emergence of a number of new badminton players should be a concern because the character of the game is still unknown.
« The point is we can’t be careless, » said Rionny.
