KW Girls Advance to Orleans Masters Quarterfinals

The battle in the women’s singles round of 16 at the 2022 Orleans Masters, which brought together two Indonesian badminton players, was finally won by Putri Kusuma Wardani. Putri beat Ruselli Hartawan in two straight games 21-11 and 21-10 to advance to the quarter-finals, Thursday (31/3).

In the match which took place at the Palais des Sports, France, Putri appeared very dominant and dictated the game without even giving Ruselli a chance to get up to chase points.

“Alhamdulillah, I was given the victory. Actually, I did not prepare a special strategy against Kak Memey (Russell’s nickname),” said Putri in a written statement from PP PBSI in Jakarta.

According to Putri, her success in defeating her senior, who is also the eighth seed, is by playing without a burden and learning from her mistakes in the previous round. In addition, Putri is also careful in reading the opponent’s condition so that she can win easily.

“Today, I saw that his footwork was a bit slow, so I tried to keep playing fast,” said Putri.

The badminton player who is ranked 78th in the world hopes that this tournament can get the best results as a capital of confidence to face the next tournaments.

“This is my first tournament in 2022. I hope that I can give my best so that I can be more confident in the next tournaments. Of course everyone wants to win but I want to take it one step at a time. What must be done is to play optimally,” he said.

Putri’s move failed to be followed by the men’s singles representative, Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo, who was forced to admit the superiority of the host, Toma Junior Popov, through a three-game battle 22-20, 14-21, and 19-21.
