Seven-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton will change his name in honor of his mother, Carmen Larbalestier. This was stated by the British racer, clearly the first series of F1 2022, Bahrain GP, 20 March.
The 37-year-old said he would add his mother’s surname as soon as possible. Chances are, Hamilton will change his name to Lewis Hamilton-Larbalestier.
“My mother’s name is Larbalestier and I was just about to write it down on my behalf,” the Mercedes driver said in an on-stage interview at the Expo world exhibition in Dubai, Monday (14/3).
“I don’t fully understand when people get married that a woman loses her name. And my mother, I really want her name to continue with the name Hamilton,” he added.
Hamilton said he was working on the name change but it would not happen before this week’s Bahrain Grand Prix season opener.
Larbalestier divorced Anthony Hamilton when Hamilton was a child. Hamilton himself lived with his mother until the age of 12. (AFP/OL-15)
