Pol Espargaro Great Chance to Win in Mandalika

The results of the pre-season test at the Mandilika Circuit last February became Pol Espargaro’s big capital to win the Indonesian MotoGP. Mandalika Circuit, Central Lombok, NTB will host the 2002 MotoGP second series race on 20 March.

Victory at Mandalika will be Espargaro’s first win of the racing season this year. In the first series which took place in Qatar, the Spaniard appeared extraordinary by leading for 7 laps. However, he was only able to end the race in third position.

« I’m really looking forward to performing Mandalika. The fans have been amazing there during the test and I can only imagine what the race will be like, » explained the Repsol Honda rider.

However, the re-paving of the Mandalika Circuit track and changes to the tire rules have become a challenge for racers. It is certain that these two things will make the conditions of the competition very different from the pre-season test last month.

« We came in a good moment with the performance in Qatar. We also had a good test before in Mandalika, but a lot has changed since then, » he explained.

« We’ll have to see what it looks like when we arrive. The plan is to continue working as we did while in Qatar and in testing to continue to unlock our full potential. »

Throughout history, Indonesia has only held the MotoGP series three times. Prior to the 2022 MotoGP Indonesia, Indonesia hosted the MotoGP series in 1996 and 1997 at the Sentul Circuit, West Java. In the two editions, Repsol Honda won the championship through Mick Doohan (1996) and Tadayuki Okada (1997). (Crashnet/OL-15)
