Qualify for the second round of Wimbledon, Swiatek extends winning streak

World number one tennis player Iga Swiatek has stepped into the second round of the women’s singles at the Wimbledon grand slam. Facing a tennis player from Croatia, Jana Fett in the first round, Tuesday (28/6), Swiatek won 6-0, 6-3.

Next, the 21-year-old Polish tennis player will face Dutch tennis player Lesley Pattinama Kerkhove for a ticket to the last 32.

For Swiatek, victory over Jana Fett made him able to maintain an unbeaten record in 36 consecutive matches since last February. Swiatek has now equaled Monica Selesa’s winning streak which was made in 2009.

Currently, Martina Navratilova holds the record for the longest win in women’s singles in world tennis. The world’s women’s tennis legend recorded a winning record in 74 consecutive matches in the 1980s. (AFP/OL-15)
