The sixth seeded female tennis player Maria Sakkari won a landslide victory in the last 32 of the 2022 Indian Wells Masters, after overthrowing the Czech Republic’s Petra Kvitova in straight sets 6-3 and 6-0, Tuesday (15/3) WIB.
Sakkari only needed 65 minutes to secure her place in the fourth round of the WTA 1000 event. The win also put Sakkari ahead with a 4-3 head-to-head win with two-time Wimbledon champion Kvitova.
It will be Indian Wells’ last 16 for Sakkari since she made her debut in the main draw of the tournament in 2018.
« Obviously Petra is a very tough opponent, but I came on the pitch and I had a good feeling today, » Sakkari said in her post-match press conference.
« I think it was a really good day for me and it didn’t seem like a good day for him. I just played tactically in the right way and served really well, so I think that’s the reason why I won that game quite easily. » he added.
Advancing to the round of 16, Sakkari will next be challenged by unseeded Australian Daria Saville. On the way, Saville won victory over Belgian Elise Martens in a three-set fight 6-3, 4-6 and 3-6.
Meanwhile in the other match, fifth seed from Spain Paula Badosa also managed to win after beating her compatriot Sara Sorribes Tormo.
Fighting for a duration of 2 hours, Badosa managed to secure a ticket to the last 16 by winning in straight sets 7-6(7/4) and 6-1.
In the next round, Badosa will be challenged by the winner between Canadian Leylah Annie Fernandez or American Shelby Rogers. (WTA/OL-13)
