The World Boxing Association (WBA) granted special permission for a match between WBA Super, IBF and WBC welterweight titleholder Errol Spence Jr. against Keith Thurman.
According to the WBA’s official website, Tuesday (22/11), TGB Promotions previously or precisely on November 14, submitted a special permit so that Spence could fight Thurman in February 2023.
This request is also in accordance with WBA rule C.16 which states that the mandatory match period can be changed by requesting special permission or on its own initiative.
« The WBA has decided that Spence can face Thurman, » the WBA said in a statement.

For the WBA, the Spence vs Thurman match is part of a commitment to cut the WBA world title.
On the other hand, the WBA also gave permission for a duel between the holder of the WBA (regular) welterweight world title, Eimantas Stanionis, against Vergil Ortiz.
Thus the winner of the duel Spence vs Thurman and Stanionis against Ortiz will face each other. So that in the future there will only be one WBA title up for grabs, aka no WBA Super and regular.
Spence, in his last fight, successfully united three welterweight division titles by winning the WBA Super belt from Yordenis Ugas at the AT&T Stadium, Arlington, United States of America, on April 16, 2022.
Meanwhile, Thurman made a comeback after losing to Manny Pacquiao on July 20 2019 by winning the fight against Mario Barrios at the Michelob Ultra Arena, Las Vegas, February 5 2022. (Ant/OL-1)
